Modern Mobile Design Language: from Transportation to Pixels - Metro for Windows Phone 7
This is a design discussion on the thinking and inspiration for our Windows Phone design language, called Metro. We’ll tell the story of how we were inspired by classic visual design and transportation graphics systems, how the language has evolved in software that Microsoft has developed over the last 10 years, the lessons we’ve learned to along the way to create a modern UI style that is familiar, approachable, and extensible.
Cost
We are going to be charging everyone $10 to attend the event. All money collected for the event will be used to purchase appetizers at the social event after (we will run it at zero profit). Hopefully you will join us for a fun evening!

The presentation was more of a case study into how Microsoft took major risks into going forward with an unconventional design process different from the other competitors in the mobile market.
The presentation was inspiring to the community in that it goes to show how an experience team dealt with lobbying for a design process around user experience and carried it through the whole project to result in the Windows 7 phone.
